The use of grid-connected and off-grid solar power systems to generate electricity has been going on for decades. Now with the introduction of solar generators, the prospect of clean energy is becoming the mainstream. Solar generators can not only generate renewable and sustainable electricity anywhere in the sun, but also provide all these functions without generating any emissions. They represent the promise of the future power grid in a portable home-sized package.

Jackery sent us their Explorer 1000 solar generator system, which pairs the Explorer 1000 portable power station with a pair of 100-watt folding solar panels. The result is a system that can generate and store large amounts of clean, green electricity without the need for a grid connection. We ran for a few weeks and then came back to tell the story of the tape.

Disclaimer: Jackery provided the author with an Explorer 1000 and a pair of SolarSaga 100-watt panels to perform this review.

Jackery Explorer 1000 Power Station is a 1002Wh, 46.4Ah lithium battery, a power inverter with a rated continuous power of 1000 watts/peak power of 2000 watts. It is suitable for various output formats and solar charge controllers, making it a compact and portable pack.

Explorer 1000 is specially designed as the base station of solar generator system, and is equipped with solar panel input to charge the battery. The solar input port enables Explorer 1000 to charge from solar panels up to 200 watts. In our tests, it was able to charge the battery from empty to fully charged in approximately 8 hours.

To start generating electricity, simply unfold the panels, align them to the south, and insert them into the Explorer 1000. Jackery’s SolarSaga 100 panel, as the name suggests, is a 100-watt solar panel designed to be the ultimate flat-folding solar panel. Necessary cables can be cleanly stuffed into the integrated pockets on each panel to achieve barrier-free transportation. A pair of brackets on each panel are fixed in place by hook and loop straps for easy carrying, and can still be quickly deployed when the panel is erected.

These panels weigh 9.1 pounds each and are not only practical but also truly portable. In addition to charging Jackery's full range of Explorer base stations, these SolarSaga 100 panels are also equipped with a USB-C and a USB-A output port, which can directly charge many portable devices. This is a convenient option to make full use of excess solar power when the battery is full, or to quickly charge the device through solar energy.

Although it is not waterproof, the panel is coated with high temperature and waterproof PET material, which feels very strong. The two parts of the panel are stitched together with durable cloth to allow them to be folded, and the sturdy TPE rubber handle is synchronized when folded for easy carrying.

Explorer 1000 is equipped with a variety of sockets, allowing you to use the power supply in a way that suits your life. Most of my devices are now powered by USB, so including two USB-A and two USB-C ports on the DC side of the device can meet the demand. I personally don't use many devices that plug into a standard 12-volt lighter socket, but it is a great addition for those who wish to use the Explorer 1000 to charge car accessories.

On the AC side of the device, three 110-volt, 1000-watt sockets are separated across the front of the device to allow plugging in a variety of larger and higher-power devices without having to worry about larger transformers blocking the ports. Explorer 1000 top The heavy handle weighs 22 pounds and can easily move its mass without feeling embarrassed. This is not something you might consider throwing in your backpack, but it is perfect for base camp type operations such as camping, hunting, outdoor parties in the park, and providing renewable emergency power when the power grid is interrupted.

In Southern California, the increasing prevalence of wildfires has led to widespread power safety outages (PSPS) incidents, in which thousands of residents are regularly cut off from power grids. A system like the Jackery Explorer 1000 power station is an affordable way for residents living in areas where the grid is interrupted and charging mobile phones.

The system has sufficient storage capacity and power supply, and is suitable for various devices. The following are examples of the features and duration that Jackery can provide:

These are very practical, but my personal favorite application of this suite comes from Twitter. Jake from the YouTube channel DALLMYD uses Jackery Explorer 1000 to power him and his eccentric group of people into the bank vaults. Of course, it was abandoned, but it is still cool.

The Jackery Explorer 1000 is priced at $999, which is not too shabby for a 1kWh NMC lithium-ion battery with all the accessories that come with the consumer device. Jackery's team built a large number of features in a compact package. It weighs 22 pounds, which is not lightweight, but that's all it takes to bring a kilowatt-hour battery to the party these days.

Go to Jackery.com to learn more about Explorer 1000 and SolarSaga 100 solar panels. In fact, I recommend going there today because Jackery will start to offer a 15% discount on all items in today’s store from November 16th to 18th, 2020. This is a good way to get involved in solar generators or dive into a mature solar power system first.
