Makita recently announced one of the latest products in its battery-powered outdoor power supply equipment series. Makita cordless earth auger can provide 36V high performance excavation. XGD01 can dig uniform holes and is an ideal tool for many landscaping, construction and soil sampling applications.

Makita cordless earth auger is equipped with a 36V brushless motor, which can provide power equivalent to 36cc gas powered earth auger. It offers two different speed options: 0–350 and 0–1,400 RPM. You can drill holes up to 8 inches wide and 41 inches deep.

However, although the Makita Earth Auger may bring power from a gas engine, it does not bring weight. Even with two 18V 5.0Ah batteries connected, the XGD01 weighs only 17.9 pounds. This is half the weight of many 43cc models from companies such as Southland, Powermate, and Sportsman.

In addition to reducing weight, the Makita cordless earth auger has other benefits that we know and love from battery power. You can drill holes without draining. You don't need to worry about adding oil or gas-this also means less maintenance. Finally, you can also get instant startup and significantly reduced noise.

The Makita XGD01 earth auger includes automatic transmission technology. This senses resistance and adjusts the speed and torque of the auger to match the task at hand. The auger also has reverse gear, torque limiter and LED work lights.

It is worth noting that Makita designed a cordless bulldozer with a durable metal gear housing. It also has the brand’s Extreme Protection technology, which drains water and dust from important parts, thereby providing a certain degree of weatherproof protection for the tool.

We like the idea of a powerful cordless drill from Makita. The only thing we questioned about was the design. Makita seems to choose to use their XAD03 X2 platform instead of adopting a more standardized form factor. This leads to a very wide range of tools. Since you can trust electronic devices to handle binding, we may prefer the more compact handles that most professionals are accustomed to using these tools.

Once we get one to test, I believe we will have more ideas about performance.

So far, it seems that the Makita 36V Earth Auger is priced at about US$599 as a bare metal and US$719 as a kit. The kit will include two 5.0Ah batteries and a dual-port fast charger.

Makita also offers 4", 6" and 8" spiral drill bits and extension rods that can be used for deeper holes. All of these are sold separately. Currently, we see that the 8-inch auger itself sells for approximately $179.99. If you If you use this tool to buy a drill at the time of purchase, you may pay less.

These accessories include replaceable blades, which use pins to quickly connect the drill bit to the Makita 18V X2 earth auger.

I grew up in North Carolina, where the job of digging pillars was back beak work because the ground was full of rocks. Then moved to the mountains of Kentucky, where a small amount of explosives are usually used to break down the rock in the soil when digging the pillar hole. Finally I moved to Florida, where there is sand, and digging a hole for a pillar is like digging a hole on the beach, compared to where I grew up. When testing, you must test different soil types, from clay to sand, to rock-filled soil, to see if this is useful.
