GE chooses Australia to launch its solar inverter series – pv magazine International

Just when Australia thought its pioneering era was over, it had become the first country in the world to sell new solar inverters from the American giant General Electric.

GE, a large American conglomerate, chose to launch its solar inverter series in all places in Australia.

General Electric (GE), perhaps better known, brand inverters are actually manufactured by the Chinese company GoodWe under the name "GE Solar Inverters."

The series includes three inverter solutions. The first is a residential GEP 3 –5 kW single-phase inverter with 2 MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking). The second one is also used for rooftop solar systems, but is bigger-a GEP 5-10 kW single-phase inverter with 3 MPPT.

The third is for the commercial and industrial sectors-GEP 29.9-60 kW with up to 6 MPPT and is a three-phase inverter.

All three products have a 10-year warranty and can be purchased from GE Solar Inverter's designated partners One Stop Warehouse and MMEM Greentech.

The exact cost of the inverter is unclear. However, in a statement announcing the product launch on Monday, Thomas Buccellato, senior managing director of GE Licensing, mentioned that the goal is the "high-end market," but further stated that GE is marking the product as cost-effective, which confused me a bit.

As for choosing GoodWe to produce inverter series, GE stated that this Chinese company was selected as its authorized partner in 2020 because it switched to renewable energy (GE was founded 130 years ago and was previously involved in the manufacture of aircraft engines, oil and gas Production equipment), medical imaging and a set of industrial products).

"As part of the strict licensing partner selection process, solar inverter manufacturers are carefully scrutinized in every detail and evaluated based on a list of selection criteria carefully drafted by a group of elite researchers and scientists," General Electric said The statement read.

"GoodWe is the right choice," Buccellato added.

With a new inverter kit available only in Australia (at least for now), GE stated that its goal is to become "a major technological innovator in the growing Australian solar industry."
