Lightsource bp has announced that it has entered the Polish solar market through a joint development agreement that will allow developers to continue to build 757MWp pipelines in the country.

Lightsource bp stated that the total capital expenditure value of this transaction could be as high as 500 million euros ($582.5 million), and Lightsource bp stated that it has "carefully reviewed" the developer partners in the investment portfolio.

The company said that these projects will be developed by an "experienced local renewable energy company", but the identity of the development partner was not disclosed.

About half of the projects will be ready next year.

Lightsource bp also revealed that it plans to sell some electricity on the open market in Poland and is actively seeking companies in the country to sign long-term power purchase agreements with it. Poland will also attract attention in the next few rounds of renewable energy auctions.

The portfolio includes nine projects located in the Zachodnio-Pomorskie, Lubuskie, Dolnośląskie and Wielkopolskie regions.

Earlier this year, Polish developers told PV Tech Premium that Poland’s solar market was beyond everyone’s expectations and was considered to be one of the smartest jurisdictions for renewable energy development in Europe, driven by the success of the country’s auction plan. , The plan looks set to "outperform the market by a large margin." Lightsource bp said that Poland’s operating solar capacity currently exceeds 6GW, while the national goal is to reach 7.3GW by 2030.

PV Tech Power reported extensively on the Polish solar market in the cover feature of Volume 27 published earlier this summer.

PV Tech publisher Solar Media will host a large-scale solar energy conference in Central and Eastern Europe in Warsaw, Poland next month. The event will bring together EPC, developers and financiers and will be held from November 16th to 17th. You can find more information about the event here, including how to participate.
