LG Energy Solution, the new name of LG Chem’s battery business, today released its new lithium-ion battery series: LG RESU Prime. This new family of household battery solutions has a maximum energy of 16 kWh and a rated power of 7 kW.

More importantly, the new-generation LG RESU battery adopts a modular design, which not only simplifies on-site maintenance, but also simplifies transportation, handling and installation. The complete LG RESU Prime lineup includes:

LG RESU Prime series is also equipped with LG Energy Solution's advanced remote monitoring system RESU Monitor, which enables installers and users to remotely monitor battery conditions in real time, and allows installers to proactively diagnose any problems through an easy-to-use interface.

"The LG RESU Prime series is designed to meet the needs of today’s consumers, who now rely on home energy solutions to power their lives and careers. Due to the uncertainty caused by the increase in power outages and the inefficiency of the aging grid system, the culture of working from home The transformation highlights the increasing demand for reliable energy solutions. LG RESU Prime provides consumers with a sense of self-reliance in an intuitive form, and they can expand according to their needs," said Linh Tran, Sales Director, LG Energy Solution's residential business Say. "We also work closely with the world's leading inverter manufacturers to allow the installation of new applications and existing solar systems: single-phase or three-phase, commercial and residential, with very strong backup capabilities."

In addition to LG RESU Prime series products, LG Energy Solution also announced the concept design of LG RESU FLEX, which is an innovation of a new concept of household batteries. RESU FLEX is a flexible product that can create a battery system with the required capacity and design by configuring battery cells in various ways. The product is easy to install and expandable, and is expected to be released in the second half of 2021.

Kelly Pickerel has more than ten years of reporting experience in the US solar industry and is currently the editor-in-chief of Solar Power World.

Utility companies are now in a death spiral. They still need to maintain existing infrastructure in almost the same geographic area, but they have fewer habits because people use more renewable energy. This means that personal bills will increase (the same cost divided by fewer customers = higher bills per customer). This will only encourage more people to switch to renewable energy...

I began to think that the way IOU Utilities (opted) to maintain its regulated monopoly income is to implement a plan for soaring electricity tariffs, such as block electricity grading rates, soaring TOU rates after the end of solar photovoltaic power generation days, and "demand fees." Increase interest rates to deal with spinning reserve contracts with fuel-fired power generation facilities. In particular, the trend in the past 5 years to provide greater energy storage capacity seems to be the next trend. At first it was TESLA and 7kWh, with 5.6kWh available. Now entities like Humless Universal and Electroque offer products that can stack up to 70 to 90kWh of energy storage. This is entering the field of commercial energy storage. I can see that some things are happening. Commercial ESS manufacturers downsize and provide 25kWh interactive inverter products with commercial-size battery packs in 240VAC residences, and provide 25kW/100kWh systems for large-scale home systems, which will Make people become a grid-independent system. Another thing that may happen is to adopt an existing commercial ESS and add a 460-480 three-phase to 240VAC split-phase transformer to supply power for homes or small businesses. Recently, Sonnen, GENERAC and now LG Chem RESU Prime are providing more capacity. Then there is the upcoming RESU Flex. Battery prices seem to be still falling, not as much as the decline in solar photovoltaics, but enough to allow residential ESS products to have more capacity. I think the rote utility company is crying and twisting about the prospect of the utility company soon becoming a backup for the residential renewable energy system.
