Redback Technologies, an Australian-owned and operated energy storage company, has added a series of grid-connected solar inverters to its product line and expanded its range of household batteries to include two new, larger-capacity formats.

The Brisbane-based company announced the launch of new battery and inverter products this week as part of the "brand relaunch", including the introduction of a new logo depicting the sun and "an open road to Australia's clean energy future ".

Redback CEO Patrick Matweew said that based on its 2015 success in switching to smart home battery solutions and its position as an Australian company in the market, the decision to rebrand coincided with the company’s strategy of " Significant changes".

"Adding to the fact that there are no affordable Australian brands on the market, we decided to expand our product portfolio to include grid-connected photovoltaic inverters," Matweew said.

"We want to provide Australian families and small businesses with an Australian option, an option that suits our local conditions, a strong and affordable option, and there is clearly a gap in the market."

The Redback smart inverter series is single-phase, providing 5, 6, 8 and 10kVA output, and allows home batteries to be added in the future. They will be listed in Australia in late November, and all comply with the new AS4777.2 (2020) standard.

New batteries in the Redback smart battery series include the SB9600 with a nominal storage capacity of 9.6kWh and 4.5kVA inverters, and the larger SB14200 with a storage capacity of 14.2kWh and 4.5kVA inverters.

The two new lithium-ion batteries officially launched at the Smart Energy Conference in May will also be available to consumers in late November, and the smaller 7.2kWh smart battery is now available and available.

Matweew said at the time that the launch of the new product was due to the "huge success" of the 7.2kWh SB7200, and the increasing search for more options, especially "more storage space" for solar homes.

According to the specifications of the smart battery series, their rated operating temperature is between -20°C and 60°C, although the table indicates that the battery will be derated at temperatures below 10°C and above 40°C.

The AC-coupled battery has a built-in battery management system that can provide backup power when the grid is out of power. It is said to be compatible with "most" existing rooftop solar systems.

"Our rebranding reaffirms our strong commitment to Australian customers, partners and communities, as we strive to make renewable energy affordable for every Australian household and small business," Mattwei said this week.

"The entire Redback team is very proud to prove that Australian local start-ups have the space and opportunity to enter the very competitive solar market and make a difference.

"I think our very Australian approach, based on relationships, focus on local support and community involvement, makes us stand out."
