Panasonic today introduced an updated EverVolt home energy storage system design. This EverVolt 2.0 allows more customization, and has a convenient modular footprint and weatherproof design.

"The current version of EverVolt is only suitable for indoor ratings-this new EverVolt has outdoor ratings, with larger inverters, capacity and throughput," said Mukesh Sethi, Director of Panasonic Solar and Energy Storage. Larger inverters also mean more photovoltaics enter the battery.

"The biggest change is that the battery is LFP," Sethi said. "They provide us with a better temperature range, and all their advantages make it easier for us to obtain outdoor ratings."

Especially in California, many customers prefer outdoor rated energy storage systems because they do not have basements or garages. However, Panasonic has not phased out NMC batteries or EverVolt 1.0, it just "depends on the needs of the system. We will provide two options."

EverVolt 1.0 has a separate AC or DC inverter, which is a bit difficult to manage. EverVolt 2.0 has a hybrid inverter, so a system can be simultaneously AC and DC coupled. Depending on the module used, the maximum PV for DC coupling is limited to 6 or 7 kW.

Equally important, EverVolt 2.0 has hardware for future integration with VPP providers and aggregators.

"There are many things happening, and we are working hard to make this new EverVolt an ideal choice," Sethi said.

Capacity: The new EverVolt 2.0 provides off-grid 7.6 kW and grid-connected 9.6 kW continuous power output, enough to power ordinary household loads, and has two energy storage capacity options: 17.1 kWh or 25.65 kWh per system (available capacity ). Up to 12 kW of solar energy can be connected to EverVolt inverters-used to power loads and charge batteries.

Hardware: The system can be AC-coupled and DC-coupled, so it can be used with new and existing solar systems. EverVolt 2.0 consists of two main components: a floor-standing battery cabinet and a hybrid smart inverter with 4 MPPTs. It is simple to install and can be flexibly placed inside or outside-yes, the outdoor protection level of EverVolt 2.0 is IP55 ( NEMA 3R)).

Other features of Panasonic EverVolt 2.0 household batteries include:

• Modular design. Up to three systems can be stacked together to obtain more power output and energy storage capacity • Multiple operating modes, including standby mode, residence mode, usage time mode and custom modes that can be set by the system owner • On-site maintenance • A brand-new mobile application that allows homeowners to monitor system data and set operating modes • Optional wireless color LCD display to view battery monitoring data and control system settings

EverVolt 2.0 is protected by Panasonic's 10-year product and performance warranty when installed by a certified EverVolt installer. The EverVolt 10-year warranty is one of the best warranties among homeowners of its kind. Remind Panasonic has also established partnerships with Lumin and Span in load management and smart circuits.

"Innovation in the energy storage field has never been more exciting and necessary than it is today," Sethi said. "As part of our continuing commitment to provide homeowners with first-class solar and storage solutions, Panasonic EverVolt 2.0 has new features that not only meet the needs of energy-conscious homeowners, but also support broader sustainability goals. The recently announced The federal goal of adopting solar energy across the country, coupled with consumers’ growing desire for resilience, will only emphasize the need for solar and storage solutions like this one."

There are plenty of video interviews and other content on our YouTube page. Recently we launched Power Forward! - Cooperate with BayWare to discuss higher-level industry topics and best practices/trends for operating solar business today. Our longer-running side project is The Pitch-we have awkward discussions with solar manufacturers and suppliers about their new technologies and ideas so you don't have to. We discussed everything from residential trackless deck connections and home solar financing to large-scale energy storage value stacking and utility-driven new home solar + storage microgrids. We also posted our annual project announcement there! Interviews with this year’s winners will begin in the week of November 8. Go there today and subscribe to learn about all this extra content.
